Ella Purnell Reflects on Her Video Game Career and Concerns of Typecasting After a Breakthrough Year

Ella Purnell has experienced a remarkably successful year in 2024. The talented British actress has not only featured in notable projects like Arcane and Fallout but has also taken on a role in the drama Sweetpea. Soon, she will return to the spotlight with her participation in Yellowjackets.

At present, Purnell finds herself primarily linked to her roles in video game adaptations, although she expresses uncertainty about pursuing this path further. During her appearance at MCM x EGX 2024, she candidly shared her thoughts on the matter and her intentions to steer clear of becoming typecast as the video game actress.

She mentioned a surprising reality, stating that she feels somewhat guilty admitting her lack of gaming experience, especially considering her successful involvement in two well-received video game adaptations. The actress reflected on this unforeseen turn of events and pondered how it all came to be.

Purnell expressed concerns that continuing in this genre might confine her to a specific label. She noted, “I actually think I need to stay distancing myself from video game adaptations at this moment, as I'm going to get typecast. I'm going to be the girl in the gaming world. I guess there are greater challenges one could face than that.”

While Fallout recently received accolades for Best Adaptation at The Game Awards, it appears that even if Purnell isn’t keen on fully embracing the video game persona, she will likely remain associated with at least one such project in the near future.
