PlayStation Cancels Ambitious Projects by Bluepoint and Bend Studios Amidst Live-Service Shakeup

PlayStation has made the decision to halt the development of games created by the teams behind Demon's Souls and Days Gone.

For quite some time, gamers have been curious about the upcoming project from Bluepoint following their successful release of Demon's Souls in 2020. The only information shared previously indicated that the game would be something original and not just another remake or remaster that the studio typically produces. Unfortunately, it has now been revealed that this project will not be released at all.

Reports indicate that PlayStation has called off two additional live-service games after the substantial disappointment of Concord and the ensuing closure of its developer last year. Both projects were associated with Bluepoint and the Bend Studio team, indicating years of development have been ultimately wasted.

Although no specifics were provided about Bend's project, it has been confirmed that Bluepoint was in the process of creating an online God of War game after collaborating with Santa Monica to complete God of War: Ragnarök in 2022.

On a positive note, a representative from Sony has stated that neither Bluepoint nor Bend is facing closure. However, this does not guarantee security for the future, as it has also been mentioned that PlayStation is working closely with both studios to identify their subsequent projects. The absence of already greenlit initiatives is not an encouraging sign in the current climate, yet hope remains that they may have another opportunity after the recent trend of halting several live-service titles over the past couple of years.
