PS5 Pro Launch Exceeds Expectations with Strong Sales in Japan
Nov-17-2024
The recent performance of the PS5 Pro in Japan has surpassed expectations, showcasing strong demand from consumers. Its initial week of sales has shown impressive numbers, indicating a positive reception in the market.
The latest data from a prominent Japanese sales report reveals that the PS5 Pro secured its position at the top of the hardware sales charts, achieving sales of 78,086 units. This performance places the Nintendo Switch OLED in second place with significantly fewer units sold, totaling 42,297.
Even with a higher price point of $699.99 / £699.99, there remains a solid interest in this mid-generation upgrade in the region. Prior to launch, pre-order figures suggested a robust anticipation for the new console, with the Group President of Sony, Hiroki Totoki, noting that pre-orders were "marginally stronger" than those for the PS4 Pro. He also stated that the elevated price does not appear to be having a negative impact on the sales strategy.
While the console may be considered a premium investment, its appeal is evident. The PS5 Pro aims to provide an ideal balance between visual fidelity and overall performance. Consequently, games designed for the PS5 Pro can achieve remarkable features, including 4K resolution combined with a consistent 60 frames per second. Titles like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Stellar Blade have all benefited from exclusive performance modes made available with this console.
The ultimate long-term success of the PS5 Pro remains uncertain. While expectations for discounts during the soon-approaching Black Friday period are low, enticing bundles that include accessories such as the disc reader and upright support—each of which are offered separately—would certainly be a welcomed development.
