Revamping Helldivers 2: The Case for an Exoskeleton Backpack Stratagem

In Helldivers 2, the experience can be intense, and players may find themselves surrounded at critical moments. This often leads to a realization that lighter armor could have provided the mobility necessary to evade danger. A strategic addition by Arrowhead Game Studios could address this issue by introducing a mechanism specifically designed to enhance player speed during engagements.

While some might argue that light armor already serves this purpose effectively, its overall protection may not suffice in high-stakes situations, compelling players to choose heavier gear. An innovative implementation of an Exoskeleton Backpack, paired with heavier armor, could significantly improve gameplay, particularly in challenging missions that start at Level 7 and escalate beyond.

Opting for light armor is advantageous due to its superior stamina regeneration and speed. However, as players tackle tougher challenges, they often find the low defense rating of this armor to be a critical disadvantage. Consequently, many resort to utilizing medium or heavy armor, which unfortunately comes with a reduced speed capability. A new Stratagem that enhances speed, irrespective of the armor selection, is essential for improving player performance.

The ideal solution would be the introduction of a powered exoskeleton, specifically an Exoskeleton Backpack, to the game. This would enable players to maintain the defensive advantages of heavy armor while also gaining enhanced mobility on the battlefield. Such an accessory would promote a more dynamic playstyle, allowing for effective engagement without sacrificing speed.

If a Stratagem is not feasible, Arrowhead could instead offer an armor set as a Warbond, incorporating a powered exoskeleton that grants a passive speed enhancement. Moreover, this armor could be designed with modifications that permit players to execute a dodge roll instead of the standard dive, adding an extra layer of tactical maneuverability.

Since its launch in February, Helldivers 2 initially gained widespread popularity, but soon lost a significant portion of its player base. Many players on PC opted out due to a problematic PSN account linking policy, while PlayStation 5 users voiced their dissatisfaction with frequent nerfs. However, Arrowhead has taken significant steps to rectify these issues and rebuild its community.

Thanks to recent updates that have revamped several aspects of weapons, Stratagems, and overarching gameplay, interest in Helldivers 2 has surged once more. The active player count reflects a positive trend, indicating that the studio is steering the game in a favorable direction. Still, the inclusion of fresh content is vital, and introducing an Exoskeleton Backpack Stratagem could be a strong initial move. Furthermore, the addition of vehicles could vastly enhance gameplay experiences.
