Truecaller Introduces Fraud Insurance for Premium Subscribers to Combat Mobile Scams

Truecaller has introduced an insurance protection plan to safeguard users against mobile fraud. This new offering, Truecaller Fraud Insurance, is available exclusively to the app's paid subscribers on Android and iOS platforms. Initially limited to users in India, plans for broader distribution are in place. The caller ID service has collaborated with HDFC Ergo to bring this insurance option to its Indian users. In addition to this, the company recently rolled out an AI Call Scanner feature to thwart AI-based voice scam attempts.

According to a newsroom post, the new insurance product is designed to protect premium subscribers and was initially launched in India for both iOS and Android users. The introduction of this insurance plan aims to shield Truecaller users from online fraud and scams.

The safeguard against fraud via Truecaller is offered through a collaborative effort with HDFC Ergo, a prominent Indian insurance firm which is a resultant alliance between HDFC and ERGO International. Under this plan, users are insured up to a total sum of Rs. 10,000. Once users opt into the service, the fraud coverage can be activated from within the app. However, the company did not specify the situations this insurance covers or the required proof for claiming the insured amount.

It's worth noting that this feature is not universally available. While it's allotted only to Premium subscribers, the insurance product is specifically available to the app's annual subscribers. Those not eligible under current subscription plans will have the opportunity to upgrade to access the benefits.

The company emphasized that subscribers of specific plans will receive Truecaller Fraud Insurance at no additional cost. Furthermore, Truecaller Family subscribers have the option to extend this protection to all their family members.
